Yotav Eliach Judaism Zionism and the Land of IsraelMazal tov to Rabbi Yotav Eliach '75 upon publishing his book, Judasim, Zionism and the Land of Israel.

The 4,000-year religious, ideological, and historical story of the Jewish nation brought into stunning clarity by a leading authority on the subject.

"Most Modern Orthodox yeshiva educators define themselves as Religious Zionists. They and their students usually daven in shuls where the prayer for the welfare of the State of Israel is said every Shabbat; visit Israel rather often; donate monies to Israeli institutions and causes; and are committed to studying in Israel after graduation. Yet few of these schools think it important to formally teach Zionism. In doing so, they allow the term Zionism to become associated with something secular and anti-religious, and indeed, may soon see their students turning to Torah educators who are quite comfortable in declaring themselves to be non-Zionist.
If we want our students to take a Religious Zionist attitude towards the State of Israel, we shall have to teach it formally, as we do everything else we think important. A Religious Zionism curriculum should be viewed as a course that deals with Israel's centrality in Jewish life throughout the ages."

This book is the product of many years' instruction of the subject at the Yeshivah of Flatbush High School.

Congratulations Rabbi Eliach!

The Yeshiva runs on Talmud Torah, Tefilla, Middot Tovot, and Maasim Tovim. These days - we are all working that much harder to keep it all running. We wanted to highlight some 'Ovdei HaYeshiva' starting with Ovdei HaMitbach. These Guys are serving up meals to Yeshiva talmidim, Rabbeim and staff along with Evacuees from Kiriyat Shemone, Refugees from Kfar Maimon, an IDF unit serving in the area, elderly residents of Alon Shevut whose support system have been drafted, and are providing school meals including meals for children whose parents are currently serving and protecting.
Oh, there are countless extras; one Shabbat, they prepared a Simcha for a Bar Mitzvah Boy - an evacuee from Kiriyat Shemone sheltering safely with his family in the Yeshiva dorms - whose father is currently serving and protecting. Some of them have been drafted and are serving on Emergency Response Teams. They show up in the kitchen and then leave to do their shifts.   All have family who are currently serving and protecting. Thanking them for showing up to work and working hard - every day - during these difficult times - way beyond the call of duty.
